The World of Pharloom
Welcome to the haunted kingdom of Pharloom, the vast, unfamiliar, and vertically-structured world of Hollow Knight: Silksong. Unlike the descent into Hallownest’s darkness, Hornet’s journey is a deadly pilgrimage of ascent towards a shining Citadel at the kingdom’s peak.
This section is your central hub for all information regarding the locations, inhabitants, and deep lore of this land ruled by Silk and Song.
A Kingdom of Silk and Song
Section titled “A Kingdom of Silk and Song”Pharloom’s central theme is woven into its very fabric. The motifs of music and weaving are pervasive; bells are a common sight in the environment, worn by enemies, and used as weapons. This “Silksong” is believed to be more than a cultural phenomenon—it’s a powerful, binding force that imposes a form of order and servitude upon the kingdom’s inhabitants. Enemies, upon defeat, release thin white strings, as if they were puppets being controlled.
Hornet’s quest to ascend and potentially silence this song could, therefore, have devastating consequences, unleashing the chaotic, primal nature of the kingdom’s inhabitants and setting up a more complex and morally ambiguous conflict than the battle against the Radiance.
Known Biomes & Locations
Section titled “Known Biomes & Locations”Pharloom is comprised of a diverse array of hand-crafted biomes. Unlike the solitary Dirtmouth, Pharloom features multiple towns and settlements that serve as hubs for quests and commerce. Confirmed locations include:
- Moss Grotto: A lush, verdant area believed to be the game’s starting location.
- Deep Docks: A mechanical, lava-filled region with clanking elevators.
- Gilded Cities: Ornate and shining urban environments, such as the city of Bellhart.
- Bone Forest: A region repurposed from the original Hollow Knight, home to the hub town of Bonebottom.
- Greymoor: An area described by Team Cherry as one of the largest they have ever created.
