The Wailing Mother Wish

By accepting The Wailing Mother wish in Hollow Knight: Silksong, you embark on a Grand Hunt for the Songclave Wishwell. Your task is to defeat the Broodmother in The Slab region.

This guide clearly explains every phase of the hunt, from finding the creature’s lair to completing the wish.

How to Start the Quest

This quest becomes available at the Songclave Wishwell located in the Choral Chambers safe area. To unlock it, you must have progressed sufficiently through the Act 2 main story and completed the initial set of wishes for the area.

Reaching The Slab

The Broodmother’s lair is located in The Slab, a separate area connected to the Choral Chambers. There are two primary ways to get there:

  1. Direct Exit: From the Songclave, climb several floors up inside the Choral Chambers to find a gate that leads directly outside into The Slab.
  2. Bellway Teleport: Use the First Shrine’s Ventrica to teleport to the Grand Bellway’s Ventrica. From there, use the Bellway to travel to The Slab’s station and climb up from the bottom.

The Wailing Mother Walkthrough

  1. Follow the Slime Trails to the Lair

    Once inside The Slab, your task is to track the creature. Look for trails of green goop and slime on the ground and walls. These trails will lead you on a path toward the Broodmother’s nest, which is located in the upper-left (northwest) corner of The Slab, near the highest floor.

  2. Enter the Broodmother’s Lair

    Following the trail will lead you to a chamber where you will see a conspicuous crack in the back wall. This is the entrance to the beast’s nest. Hornet standing in front of a large crack in a wall, the entrance to the Broodmother's lair.

    Interact with this crack to enter a hidden hole. Proceed through the linear passage, where you’ll need to defeat a few fly-type enemies like Guardflies and Wardflies before reaching the boss arena. The fly-like minions, Guardflies and Wardflies, that block the path to the Broodmother.

  3. Confront the Broodmother

    At the end of the path, you will find the Broodmother. This boss relies on spitting snaring goop and summoning swarms of minions to control the battlefield. Hornet in combat with the large, insectoid Broodmother in its nest.

  4. Claim the Broodmother’s Eye

    After you defeat the Broodmother, she will drop the key item for the quest: the Broodmother’s Eye. Pick it up. The wish in your log will update, directing you to your final step. Hornet picking up the Broodmother's Eye item, causing the wish to update.

  5. Return to the Songclave Wishwell

    With the Broodmother’s Eye in your possession, travel back to the Songclave safe area in the Choral Chambers. Interact with the Wishwell and offer the eye to complete The Wailing Mother quest and claim your final reward. The Broodmother's Eye item being offered to the Songclave Wishwell to complete the quest.

Completing this Grand Hunt is a key step in strengthening the Songclave area and progressing your relationship with the inhabitants of the Choral Chambers.
