Crust King Khann Boss Guide (How to Beat)

Crust King Khann is a major boss in Hollow Knight: Silksong, located at the top of the Coral Tower in the Sands of Karak. Considered one of the easier main bosses in Act 3, this fight is a test of spatial awareness. Crust King Khann fills the arena with large, telegraphed pillar attacks, requiring you to stay mobile and strike from a distance.

Location: Top of the Coral Tower (Sands of Karak)

Rewards: Encrusted Heart

Reaching the Coral Tower requires navigating a tricky platforming section in the Sands of Karak. You will need the Clawline ability to begin.

  1. Start from the Blasted Steps Start from the bench located on the left side of the Blasted Steps, in the area with several hanging rings.

  2. Ascend into the Sands of Karak Use your Clawline ability on the rings to climb up and into the upper room, which leads to the Sands of Karak.

  3. Navigate the Seed Platforms In this new area, you’ll find small seeds. Strike them to create temporary platforms. Continue across the tall room to the right until you can drop to a lower section.

  4. Climb the Main Chamber You’ll enter a difficult vertical chamber. You must precisely strike seeds to create paths and climb to the top of the room.

  5. Enter the Coral Tower Once at the top, head left to reach the Coral Tower. Inside, you will need to clear several locked arenas filled with waves of enemies to open the path upward to the final arena. Use the Elegy of the Deep ability at the summit to initiate the boss fight.

This loadout focuses on dealing consistent long-range and passive damage, allowing you to focus on dodging the widespread pillar attacks.

This fight is about patience and pattern recognition. Don’t get greedy; prioritize dodging and use your ranged abilities.

  1. Watch for the Dust Cues Every single pillar attack is telegraphed by a cloud of reddish dust or smoke. This dust indicates both the location and the direction of the attack. Make this your primary focus.

  2. Stay at Mid-to-Long Range Khann is designed to be fought from a distance. Use Pale Nails as your main source of damage and stay out of his immediate vicinity unless you see a clear opening.

  3. Jump and Pogo for Offense When Khann summons horizontal pillars, a simple jump is often enough to dodge them. Use this airtime to get in a downward pogo strike or an aerial nail attack.

  4. Punish the Stuns After taking enough damage, Khann will be stunned. After the second stun, he enters a final phase where his attacks become significantly faster. Use the first stun to heal and deal heavy damage, but be prepared for the speed increase after the second. Hornet attacking Crust King Khann while he is stunned.

All of Khann’s attacks are based on summoning spiked coral pillars. The key to countering them is to watch the dust telegraphs.

Coral Pillar Skewer

Ranged / AoE

A cloud of dust appears at the edge of the arena, followed by a massive coral pillar shooting horizontally across the screen.

Counter: The dust telegraphs the height of the pillar. Simply jump over it or stay on the ground if it’s high up. You can often get a pogo strike on the boss as you jump over.

Erupting Coral Pillar

Ranged / AoE

Dust erupts from a spot on the floor, and a pillar shoots straight up to the ceiling.

Counter: As soon as you see the dust on the floor, dash away from the spot. There is a generous window to react.

Pillar Cross

Ranged / AoE

Two dust clouds appear, indicating two diagonal paths. Pillars then erupt along these paths, forming a large ‘X’ across the arena.

Counter: The corners of the arena are usually the safest spots. Identify the ‘X’ pattern from the dust and move to an open quadrant.

Coral Fall

Ranged / AoE

Multiple dust clouds appear on the ceiling, followed by a rain of short pillars falling straight down.

Counter: The gaps between the falling pillars are always safe. Watch the dust clouds on the ceiling and position yourself in a clear vertical lane.

Coral Overgrowth

Ranged / AoE

The boss summons numerous short pillars from both the floor and the ceiling, heavily restricting movement in the center of the arena.

Counter: This is a space-denial move. Retreat to the edges of the arena and focus on dodging. Use Pale Nails to deal damage from a safe distance while you wait for the pillars to retract.

Upon defeat, Crust King Khann shatters, leaving behind a valuable upgrade.

  • Encrusted Heart: A powerful permanent upgrade. (The specific effect can be detailed once known).
