How to Beat Broodmother (+Cheese Method)

The Broodmother is a large, slow-moving boss in The Slab whose main threat comes from the army of minions she spawns. This fight is a test of your add control and ability to use Area-of-Effect (AoE) damage. The boss itself has low health and simple attacks, so managing the chaos in the small arena is the key to victory.

Where to Find Broodmother

The Broodmother is located in a dedicated room in the top-left portion of The Slab. You can follow tracks on the ground that lead to her arena. You cannot start this boss fight until you have accepted “The Wailing Mother” wish from the Songclave’s Wishwall.

Runback & Preparation

The runback for this boss is one of the easiest in the game.

Tip

There is a bench located right outside the boss arena. You can use this to your advantage by charging up Tools like Voltvessels or pre-summoning Cogflies before entering the fight. Sitting on the bench to refill the tool does not cause your existing summons to disappear.

Loadouts & Preparation

Builds for this fight should focus on AoE damage and reach to deal with both the boss and her many minions.

Recommended Build (Standard)

This build focuses on using powerful AoE tools and wide swings to control the entire arena.

• Ability: Rune Rage - An excellent AoE Silk Skill for clearing out minions and dealing heavy damage to the boss.
• Crest: Reaper Crest - The wide slashes and improved pogo range are perfect for hitting the Broodmother while clearing the spawns below you.
• Tools:
  • Voltvessels: A top-tier tool for this fight. The AoE electricity will melt both the slow-moving boss and her fodder minions.
  • Cogfly & Pollip Pouch: A great combo for passive damage. The poison-coated Cogflies will hunt down and quickly kill the adds.
  • Magnetite Dice: A strong defensive option. The random chance to negate damage can save you from a fatal mistake.

Cheese Build (Tools-Only)

This build makes the fight trivial by overwhelming the boss with tool spam. Her low health makes her extremely vulnerable to this strategy.

How to Beat Broodmother

The fight starts with three mandatory waves of minions. Clear these efficiently, and the main boss fight will be much easier.

Once the Broodmother appears, follow these three core principles to win.

1. Kill the Adds First The Broodmother will constantly spawn more Brood. These adds are the main threat and your number one priority. They will quickly overwhelm you if ignored. Clear them out as soon as they appear to control the arena and regain Silk.

2. Hit Everything with AoE This fight is an AoE DPS race. The arena is small, and the boss is huge. Use tools like Voltvessels and abilities like Rune Rage when the boss and her minions are grouped up to maximize your damage output.

3. Jump Over the Slime The boss spits slime that traps you. Don’t waste time trying to attack the slime patches on the ground. They expire quickly on their own, so it’s much safer and more efficient to simply jump over them.

How to Cheese Broodmother

This method uses pre-summoned minions and ranged tool spam to kill the boss in under a minute with minimal risk. The core idea is to let your tools do all the work while you focus on staying safe.

1. Prep at the Bench Equip the Cheese Build. At the bench right outside the arena, summon four poison Cogflies. Sit on the bench again to refill your Cogfly tool. Your four summons will remain active.

2. Let Your Cogflies Clear the Adds Walk into the boss room. Your four pre-summoned Cogflies will automatically attack and destroy the three preamble minion waves for you.

3. Spam, Dodge, and Repeat As soon as the Broodmother appears, the main loop begins. Stay on the opposite side of the arena and constantly fire your Threefold Pin. As shown in the video below, you can do this while actively moving and dodging. Your Cogflies will apply constant damage while you focus on spamming pins and staying alive. Replenish Cogflies as they die. The boss’s low health means she will fall very quickly to this relentless assault.

As shown in the video, you can constantly move and reposition while spamming Threefold Pin. Your Cogflies will handle most of the damage.

Attack Patterns & Counters

Spawn Brood

Summon 1 Mask (on contact/explosion)

The Broodmother flies into the air and releases one or two “Spawn” minions. These adds are the main threat in the fight. They bounce around the arena and explode on death.

Counter: Killing these adds is your number one priority. They will quickly overwhelm you if ignored. Use wide slashes or your own tools to clear them as soon as they appear. They are also your primary source for regaining Silk.

Repeating Lunge

Melee / Dash 1 Mask

The Broodmother flings herself at Hornet. She can repeat this move up to three times in a row.

Counter: This is her most dangerous move. After she langes, watch her head. If her head turns to face you again, she is going to lunge a second or third time. Do not attack until you are sure she is finished with the combo.

Slime Spit

Ranged / Utility 0 (traps player)

The Broodmother tilts her head back and spits a glob of slime. If it hits you, you get stuck. If it hits the ground, it creates a temporary trap.

Counter: Jump to dodge the projectile. If you get stuck, spam the movement buttons to break free. Do not stand on the slime patches on the ground.

Body Slam

Melee / AoE 1 Mask

The boss lifts her head high and then flops her body around the arena, bouncing diagonally.

Counter: This attack is slow and highly telegraphed. Simply dash towards the opposite side of the arena to avoid it easily. This is a great window to heal.

• Broodmother’s Eye: A quest item collected from the defeated Broodmother. You must submit this at the Songclave’s Wishwall to complete “The Wailing Mother” wish.
