Hornet Guide
Section titled “Hornet Guide”Hornet’s gameplay is a fundamental evolution from The Knight’s deliberate style, emphasizing speed, acrobatics, and a complex new equipment system. The following sections provide a summary of her core mechanics, with links to the in-depth guides in our database.
Hornet Abilities and Moveset
Section titled “Hornet Abilities and Moveset”The gameplay of Silksong is defined by Hornet’s speed. Her moveset includes a sprint, a faster dash, and the ability to mantle onto ledges. In combat, her signature diagonal dive kick replaces the vertical pogo, encouraging a more dynamic, repositioning-focused approach.
Hornet Tools and Crests
Section titled “Hornet Tools and Crests”Silksong completely overhauls character customization, replacing the beloved Charm system with a more intricate crafting system.
- Tools: The functional equivalent of Charms, offering a wide range of active and passive effects.
- Crests: The foundation of Hornet’s loadout, determining available slots for Tools.
- Crafting: Tools are crafted and replenished at benches using Shell Shards.
Silk & Healing
Section titled “Silk & Healing”The Soul meter is replaced by a spool of Silk, gathered by striking enemies. Hornet’s healing ability, Bind, is exceptionally fast and can be used mid-air, but consumes the entire spool in a single use, creating an “all or nothing” dynamic that rewards aggressive play.
Background & Role
Section titled “Background & Role”From Antagonist to Protagonist
Section titled “From Antagonist to Protagonist”First introduced in Hollow Knight as a recurring rival and eventual, reluctant ally, Hornet is one of the “Gendered Children” of the Pale King and Herrah the Beast, the queen of Deepnest. Tasked with protecting the Black Egg Temple, her self-proclaimed role as Hallownest’s “protector” was often defined by an ill-tempered and paranoid nature.
In Silksong, this dynamic is inverted. No longer a guardian of familiar ruins, she is a captive thrust into a pilgrimage through the unknown kingdom of Pharloom. The shift to a voiced protagonist allows for a deeper exploration of her character as she seeks to understand the mystery of her capture and ascend to a shining Citadel at the kingdom’s peak.
